![]() The Green House Nursery School’s Sensory Learning gardens are continuing to help young children with developmental challenges. Since 2012, the Green House Nursery School has been able to use these gardens to help with feeling objects, and sensing smells. The gardens have also supplied students and staff with delicious vegetables for lunches and snacks. According to founder & CEO Connor Archer, these are the earliest that the gardens have been inserted. “We still have some plants to get in, but we hope to take care of that within the next week or so” added Archer. Last week, the non-profit received a $150.00 donation from Courageous Steps, for scholarships to help low income families so children in those families can still have the opportunity to be in that educational setting. According to Archer, we are looking for more sensory learning projects as we head into the summer of 2017. If your organization is interested in starting a project with us, please email us at: [email protected].

An estimated 225+ people attended the event according to our board of directors and CEO Connor Archer. This number has significantly increased from the year before at an estimated 75. The event was held in honor of Dylan McInnis, an individual who lived with the challenges of Autism. Dylan passed away last May due to a congenital heart defect. Dylan reminds us all of the courageous steps that he took in his short life. Supporters from Veazie, Old Town, Orono, Bangor, Hampden, Brewer, Alton, Bradley, and other communities came out today to support this newly-formed non-profit organization that strives to help children and young adults with developmental challenges. “This year’s walk-run attendance surprised me in many ways” said founder & CEO Connor Archer. “I was taken back when all the cars were filling up the parking lot, and when everyone was busy” added Archer. Archer was thankful for all the volunteers, fundraising committee members, and board members who made sure that the event was under control. “There are improvements that need to be made for next year. With hope of getting more teams created, and more sponsors for the event, we should be able to double the amount of teams and potentially double the amount of participants” said Archer.
